David Benedikt Wirth (born 1988 in Fulda, Germany) is a painter. He attended the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf where he became Meisterschüler of Professor Eberhard Havekost. In 2021 he received the NRW.Bank Art prize for painting and graphics. Wirth’s work has been featured in exhibitions across Europe and Asia, including Temple, JVDW gallery (2022), at Landtag Nordrhein-Westfalen (2022) and White Block Art Center in Seoul, South Korea (2022). In his artistic practice, Wirth refers to his own image archive to explore themes of society and culture, looking at the relationship between human beings and environment, and all that brings and holds us together. His works grasp the viewer’s eye, challenging them to understand the unforeseen that lives within them. The images create an interface between a presence of their obvious and a latency of their meaning. His careful, naturalistic painting technique evokes those specific layers that convey feelings of temporality as well as liveliness.
